.Artist Statement:

"My canvases are drenched with color...everywhere I look it is there; in nature, our
homes, in our clothes, in everything. This passion for color is what bring life to
my art."

Bio Statement:

Raleigh native Edward Baxter has produce oil paintings covering a wide array of
subject matter such as landscapes, still life, portraits, jazz themes, abstracts,
religious and African works.

In his early development, Ed was inspired by Romare Bearden, Jacob Lawrence,
John Bigger and Picasso. These days artist such as Thorton Dail, Purvis Young,
and Kehinde Wiley continue to provide a spirit-of-creation that has enabled Ed to
produce paintings for over 40 years.

Ed's art has been displayed at numerous venues including the North Carolina
Museum of History , Woman's Club of Raleigh, Sertoma Art Center, Glance Art
Gallery, Page-Walker Art & History Center, Visual Art Exchange, Local Color
Gallery, Chicago African Arts Festival, Burr Gallery at S.C. Jazz Festival,
Cameron Art Museum, Wilmington, N.C., Herbert C. Young Community Center,
Cary, N.C., Cary Ballet Conservatory, Cary, N.C., Progress Energy Center for the
Performing Arts Betty Ray McCain Gallery, and the Ovation T.V. Channel. In
addition, Ed's work was chosen by noted North Carolina artist and curator
William Mangum for an exhibit at the Campbell House Galleries in Southern
Pines, June 2011.
